as you may have heard, the Central Committee of Lay Catholics in Germany (ZdK) has made a unanimous decision in May this year to ask the bishops to allow officially for blessing ceremonies of same-sex couples who are living in a registered partnership. We (some Catholic LGBTs in Germany) would like to follow-up this initiative and start dialogue with our bishops about this in the coming year, after the Family Synod (hoping that it will not block such steps forward explicitly).
Therefore, we thought it might be useful to begin with a small research on how blessing ceremonies are theologically discussed in the Catholic Church in other countries and if there is any kind of officially legitimated practice.
In Germany, until now, they exist, but only unofficial; sometimes the priests have to face serious consequences.
It would also be interesting to know how equal marriage laws in your countries have effected the practice and theology of partnership blessings, especially if there has been an opening for them.
Do you know Catholic theological literature that discusses the issue from your country?
