more and more I’ve heard in recent weeks the expression „gender ideology“ used by Catholic bishops and Cardinals. It seems to become one of the key „ideological“ wappons within the Catholic church and has, of course, a long record, because the Holy See was notorious in multilateral organisations to insist on that the term „gender“ may not be used in official documents since the 90s. However, a new „wave“ of official publications using the expression „gender ideology“ seems to have been triggered by one of the last speech from Pope Benedict XVI. (see below) and has found its way into official letter from national Bishop’s Conferences (Poland, Portugal, Slovakia)
I have listed below some of my findings for „gender ideology bishop“ in Google which are definitively not exhaustive.

I would be interested:
- Has this ideological tool has been used in other countries and in other denominations as well?
- Do you know of any academic research on this phenomenon, e.g. a discourse analysis?
